Kongens Tri support “Children with Cancer”

when racing Ironman Lanzarote 2009

The Danish triathlon team, named Kongens Tri, has participated in Ironman Lanzarote 2009 and through their participation financially supported the organization: “The association for Children with Cancer”. Their aim is to create awareness about and financial support to the organization which they have obtained through different sponsorships from Danish companies.

About Kongens Tri
The Danish triathlon team has only existed since November 2008 and presently counts 7 members. These are good friends and getting ready for an Ironman requires hard work and many hours of training. Therefore it has been beneficial for the members to have a club so they could train together and keep close to each other during the preparation sessions. Normally it takes from 8 to 9 months to prepare oneself for an Ironman and especially the last two months before the race are much more intense. This little triathlon group has used the experience and inspiration from the members: Brian Pamperin, Morten Nielsen and Henrik Wibskov who had already finished an Ironman Lanzarote before.

The charity part of training hard
The charity project is a big part of the work of Kongens Tri and the thought about doing something good for people who needs it is a giant motivation. Cancer is a terrible disease and even more terrible when it affects children. It did motivate the team to keep on going during the race as the members knew they were supporting a good cause through their race.

Ironman Lanzarote 2009
The reason for Kongens Tri to choose Ironman Lanzarote was mainly because it is the hardest Ironman race among many, caused by the hilly bike ride and the wind we have here on Lanzarote. All agreed that is was an amazing race and that they will probably participate again at some point.

The Association for Children with Cancer
The association is an independent, non-political organization in Denmark who offers arrangements and friendly support for everyone involved with children with cancer. Within the organization they are trying to improve the living conditions for the children. The organization works closely together with parents and the different hospital departments where the children are admitted.

Every month there is an arrangement within the organization and everyone who is member can take part. The arrangement can be bowling, canoeing, skiing and other amusing activities which help the children to live a life without to many losses compared to living a normal life. They also arrange lectures, family weekends, create network groups, etc. All these arrangements aim to help both families and the children by giving them some tools which makes it less painful to deal with cancer. The people behind the organization are working as volunteers in order to keep the cost at a minimum.
