Ouchterlony & Langvad win 2-Stage MTB race 2010!Saturday was a beautiful day for the 1st of the "2 stage Mountain Bike Race", that opened the season for a series of 6 composing the Challenge Canarias.

Among the 143 participants taking the start in the first stage, twelve nationalities were represented, as well as some famous athletes from international MTB marathons, such as German Andy Ströbel, Austrian Silvio Wieltsching, Scot James Ouchterlony or Spanish Eneko Llanos, 3 times winner of the World Championship X-terra in Hawaii. Finally, the victory was for James Ouchterlony in front of Ströbel and Rasmus Jessing, one of the many Danish participants in the race. Belgians Bart Musschoot and Wim Tollenaere finished first and second in their group, Masters 40+. In the women’s race, Danish Annika Langvad impressed with a clear advantage on all other female racers and many men, as she crossed the finish line in 12th position overall. James Angus Ouchterlony (winner): "I did not think I would win today because the distance was a bit short for me and I knew the Danes were strong. But, when Ströbel almost fell, I took some meters advantage and I kept on very strong until reaching the finish. I do intend to gave a great race tomorrow as the race will be long and more technical as today, and I like that!" |

Scottish James Ouchterlony won also the second stage on Sunday at Club La Santa after 60 Km in a tough landscape partly through the National Volcanic Park of Timanfaya.
Strong winds made the course even harder, and the technicality was much higher. Even so, the winner was decided after a final sprint where Ouchterlony won with only 2 seconds in front of Ströbel.
Danish Annika Langvad won with the same ease as she did on Saturday. Second was Swiss Milena Landwing.
