Chrissie uses Club La Santa to start up her new training period

The Ironman World Champion visited Club La Santa for her training start-up because she sees it as an ideal place for starting up in a correct way. "The fantastic facilities, the peaceful environment and the perfect weather help me getting into a routine" says Chrissie Wellington on why she chose Club La Santa for her start-up period.

Background
The very successful Chrissie Wellington is a woman with high ambitions to win and has an extraordinary background as an athlete.
In 2007 Chrissie Wellington won her first Ironman World Championships in Hawaii and since then won many different races.
The 31-years old athlete has already tried more than the most of people. She is highly educated and has work experience within development for the British government and later in Nepal for development as well. Chrissie Wellington changed her life direction a few years ago where she decided to be a professional athlete which she succeeded very well. It must be said that she is a women with many different aspects of life and has many different life experiences which also have helped her becoming the powerful woman she is today.

Memories from Lanzarote
It is not the first time for Chrissie Wellington to visit Lanzarote. She was here years ago on her first family holiday as a six years old girl exploring the island for the very first time. During her stay here on Lanzarote she remembered some of the areas she saw together with her family and refreshed her family memories be exploring the island again, though now on her cycling tours.

Plans for 2009
The main plans for this year are to do three Ironman races, one in April – so probably Australia, another in July – Chrissie has not revealed which one yet - and of course October for the World Championship in Hawaii.
This level in the sport demands many training sessions and to Chrissie it is basically training seven days a week in order to maintain the right shape for the competitions.
Chrissie Wellington is not obsessed about the diet, but makes sure the meals contain 60 % of carbonated calories due to the right fuel of the body. Once a week, she includes red meat to ensure the iron needs of the body – and health fat should never be missing (especially olive oil)… and she does eat chocolate sometimes, as well as cheese. ;-))

Aspects of triathlon
The Ironman world winner has broad aspects which can be seen from the many different experience in Chrissie Wellingtons life. For her, besides the races, it is important to be the best role model for upcoming athletes. She also wants to work on helping the less wealthy to be able to practice the triathlon sport because presently the financial barriers are still quite high for many - in order get the right equipment, it can be prohibitive for more than one youngster.

Private life
For Chrissie Wellington is has been quite overwhelming to become world champion at her very first participation in Hawaii as the process from the start in the sport to the sudden winning of the very most important race has been quite short. She has taken everyone by surprise and has not taken anything for granted. Right now it is a big challenge for her to be away from England most of the time, away from friends and family. It is a big sacrifice to be professional athlete because it does not give a lot of time to social activities, but right now, her highest priority is just to try to be the best, the best Ironman Triathlete as long as possible, and thus also the best possible role model for triathlon. From her past experience and travels, he is used to be far away, and luckily nowadays, telephone and e-mail help to maintain communication all over the world!

In future life
Future plans include being a pro athlete for approximately the next 5 years and then maybe go back into development, politics, but now also combined with sport development. Chrissie Wellington loves studying, travelling, politics, and now obviously also triathlon!!

We wish Chrissie a successful season for 2009 and are looking forward to seeing her again (soon… very soon…?) at Club La Santa.
