II Wine Run Lanzarote: 20 June 2010!

The II Wine Run Lanzarote will take place next Sunday, the 20th of June 2010. With around 350 entries so far, we do expect to reach 500 participants on race day (compared to 301 last year), as explained race Director Kenneth Gasque at the official press conference yesterday at the Bodega El Grifo, one of the collaborating local wine bodegas of the island.

Kenneth Gasque was accompanied by the president of the Consejo Regulador de la Denominación de Origen “Vinos de Lanzarote”, Javier Betancort, as well as the island’s government (Cabildo) presidente, Mr Pedro San Ginés, and the vicecounseller of Tourism of the Canary Island’s Government, Mrs Yolanda Perdomo and the Sports Couseller of the Lanzarote Cabildo, Mr Manuel Cabrera.

12 wine bodegas collaborate with the organization of this II Wine Run, a unique running events in Spain, that gathers wine lovers and the running sport!

The race will start at 10.00 from Mancha Blanca Dolores church for the 21,1 runners but at the same time, this second edition offers another start for those who prefer to walk 10Km.

The overall winner in the female and male category will receive a prize in liters of wine equivalent to their weight in kilos.

The run course will take the participants on different types of surfaces through the vineyards in the La Geria region. In this area, at the aidstations, the runners will be offered free samples of the wine produced by the local “bodegas” as well as water. The finish line will be in La Geria district between ‘La Geria’ and ‘Rubicon’ vineyards. (TBC)
